This section aims to identify and analyse regions at the national and international level that can serve as a reference or be of interest both for observation and comparison, as well as for possible collaboration.
Twenty regions have been identified at the national and international levels for observation and comparison for further partnership-building.
5 National regions: Andalusia, Canary Islands, Castilla la Mancha, Castilla León and Galicia.
15 European regions: Italy, France, United Kingdom, Portugal and Greece.
Competitors
The main competitors of the Region of Murcia and its areas of competence have been identified. Île de France, Lombardy and Rhône-Alpes.
Participation in Horizon 2020
The distribution of funds from the Horizon 2020 programme has been analysed with the aim of identifying regions with absorption patterns similar to the Region of Murcia. Four areas of comparison have been taken into account:
- Health, demographic change and well-being. The Region has a lower than average level of fund absorption.
- Food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine and maritime and inland water research. A medium high level for the Region at this point, with the highest allocation of resources being food security and agriculture in all areas.
- Secure, clean and efficient energy. This is the area where the least funds have been absorbed.
- Smart, green and integrated transport The Region can be classified at the middle-low level.
Reference regions for national cooperation
Thirty European regions have been identified with which there is potential for cooperation in the priority areas of this strategy, taking into account their economic and structural indicators of research and innovation.
Among them we find 7 Italian, 7 Spanish, 4 German, 4 French, 3 Portuguese, 1 Greek, 1 Irish, 1 Dutch, 1 English and 1 Romanian.
